4 Factors to Consider Before Installing a Tile Roof

This means you need to have a professional check your existing roof deck to ensure it has the minimum required pitch. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to invest in a new roof deck before installing tile roofing. Additionally, tiles are much heavier than asphalt shingles, so factor in roof reinforcements if getting a new roof deck is not an option.
2. Material: Clay was traditionally the only option for tile roofing. Many factors affect quality, like the clay source and baking method, with inferior tiles being prone to frost damage. When sourcing the tiles yourself, know where the tiles are manufactured or at least confirm that they’re designed for your local climate.
