4 Considerations When Choosing a Roof Color

There are plenty of decisions to make when investing in a roof installation project, and one of the most important is your choice of roof color. You’ll want to make sure that your roof color not only elevates the look of your home, but can contribute to its energy efficiency as well. Here are some essentials to consider when selecting a roof color:

1. Stick to the safe choice. How about choosing the same roof color as before? For starters, you already know how that particular roof color looks with your home exterior. Plus, it has already been approved by your local homeowner’s association (HOA), which is one less thing to worry about during the process. Unless you’re planning to change the palette of your home exterior in the near future, there’s no harm in going for the same roof color.

2. Avoid making a bold statement. Your roof is a significant visual element, sure, but this doesn’t mean it should be the focal point of your home exterior. You’ll want to avoid a roof color that’s too vibrant because there’s a risk that it will look out of place, or it will detract from your home’s overall appearance. Neutrals and warmer colors are the better choice. They’ll help accentuate other design elements of your home exterior instead of competing with them.

3. Take your home’s size into account. If you have a small, one-story home, choose a lighter roof color to make the home look taller. But if your home has multiple stories, you’ll want to go for a darker color so that the roof doesn’t appear overwhelming.

4. Consider energy efficiency. The excess Florida heat makes homeowners crank up their air conditioner. But did you know that your choice of roof color can actually reduce your reliance on your cooling system? Pick lighter roof shingles because they reflect solar heat, helping keep your home’s interior cooler and more comfortable – sans the high cooling bills.
